Designed to protect the immediate area surrounding your fireplace, a hearth is made of a non-combustible material that sits underneath and around your surround. The hearth must be a sufficient size in order that any burning fuel or hot embers do not fall on any combustible materials such as floorboards, carpets or rugs etc.
There is a variety of materials that are suitable for your hearth and many factors to consider when it comes to choosing the type of hearth that you need for your home:
No Hearth required
If you already have a suitable hearth that you would like to keep then this is absolutely fine, you will just need to check that it is suitable for the fireplace that you want and complies with building regulations should you want to also install a heating appliance.
Granite is dark, uniform in colour and a very hard material, which means it retains its look well and also is not as susceptible to scratching or chipping compared to slate or stone, for example. Granite also provides a striking contrast to your stone surround, providing the perfect platform for your chosen design and enhancing its position as the focal point of your room.
Choosing a material for the hearth that matches your surround creates a classic look that ticks all the boxes in terms of regulations in an unfussy and complimentary way. All our cast stone hearths are made of the same strong, durable material as our surrounds and have a subtle 10mm bevel on the front and sides to help protect the exposed edges.
Natural Bath stone
You can never have enough natural Bath stone; the perfect compliment to your surround. Not quite as scratch resistant as granite, but easy to maintain and repair should the need arise. Includes a subtle bevel on the front and sides to help protect the exposed edges.
